About this Website
The Scotland's Towns website is the portal to all information, good practice and advice on town centres and high streets in Scotland. The website has been designed so that the content will be driven by users, continually developing and evolving based on members’ needs.
People involved in maintaining or developing town centres are encouraged to share their knowledge and network via the site as a means of promoting good practice and building partnerships across Scotland.
John Swinney MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Finance & Sustainable Growth said:
“Scotland’s town and city centres are the beating heart of our economy. The businesses on high streets up and down Scotland are crucial drivers that can help keep our economy moving – particularly at a time when Scotland is feeling the effects of the global downturn.
“The Scottish Government is determined to support these small and medium sized businesses through the current tough conditions – and help them to flourish and grow both now and when the full effects of recovery begin to kick in. That is why we have already slashed business rates and will remove them totally for tens of thousands of small businesses from next April - a very timely cashflow boost. And it is why we have extended our support for Business Improvement Districts to allow local businesses across Scotland to take advantage of this opportunity to work together and promote local economic growth. This new website can only help promote those opportunities and I hope everyone who logs on finds it not just informative, but a useful tool for their business or their community.”
