A review of sustainable transport solutions in European town centres and a toolkit for the Isle of Wight.

A review of sustainable transport solutions in European town centres has produced a “town centre toolkit”, highlighting examples of best practice to lay foundations for more sustainable transport usage. The report draws on case studies from The Netherlands, Sweden and Belgium and presents relevant and up-to-date information to help communities and policy makers to identify new ways forward. The step-by-step toolkit includes detail on reducing the impact of cars in towns, improving facilities for pedestrians and for car parking, reviewing the cycling network and ensuring public transport meets local needs. The toolkit was unveiled at Green On Wight by Andre Botermans, spatial policy manager at the Government Office in Houten, Netherlands.
