British Council of Shopping Centres (BCSC) is pleased to announce that it has appointed Edward Cooke as Chief Executive, in a strategic move as it enters an exciting stage in its evolution, with the organisation set to be renamed, rebranded and repositioned at conference in September.
As Director of Policy and Public Affairs, Edward has become the established face and voice of BCSC, through engagement with national politicians, key industry leaders and national media, influencing and shaping policy debates and decision-making.
Prior to joining BCSC, Edward held positions with the BRC as a senior policy advisor and in government. In 2012, he featured in Property Week's 'Top 100 People Under 30'. Edward holds an MBA from Cass Business School and is a non-executive director of an FMCG business that sells to major supermarkets, restaurants and bars.
Mark Bourgeois, BCSC President and Executive Director at Capital & Regional, said:
"The Board are delighted to have appointed Edward as Chief Executive. He is a highly-respected and long-standing member of the team, has made a transformational contribution to BCSC and played a major role in forming our new strategy.
"He has the proven drive, ambition, passion and commitment to lead BCSC at this exciting stage in its evolution, with the organisation set to be transformed through a renaming, rebranding and repositioning. Edward will provide strong leadership as we embark on a new chapter to position BCSC as dynamic, authoritative and inclusive, to reflect the increasingly diverse world of retail property and our ever-widening membership base."
Edward Cooke said:
"There has never been a more exciting time to lead BCSC. The retail property sector continues to adapt to the way consumers shop and places evolve. Technological revolution has had a profound impact on our industry and BCSC is well placed to support businesses operating in the increasingly diverse world of retail property and place making to respond to change.
“We have an excellent Board of industry leaders, a fantastic executive team and an amazingly diverse and dynamic membership. Our aims are clear. Influence decision making. Facilitate business. Develop people. Recognise excellence. And for the entire retail property community. I'm delighted to have been asked by the Board to lead this next stage in BCSC's evolution.”
BCSC's new name and brand will be revealed on the first day of the BCSC 2016 conference in Manchester on 14-15th September. Bookings for this year's conference have jumped following the Brexit outcome, with bookings up 28 per cent on the same period last year.
Speakers include Sir Howard Bernstein (CEO of Manchester City Council) and Richard Tice (Chief Executive - Quidnet Capital, Co-founder - Leave.EU and Chairman - Global Britain Business Group) who will be speaking at the 'Britain's post-EU future' session.
The full event review including speaker programme, exhibitor listings and ticket booking platform can be accessed through the BCSC 2016 website.
