Event description
In an interactive session, EDAS invites you to join Chris Oswald (Head of Policy, Equality and Human Rights Commission Scotland), Janine McFarland (UK Recruitment, Engagement and Diversity Manager, WebHelp Contact Services), Grant Thoms (Head of Strategy & Policy - Scotland, Ingeus) and Ishabel Bremner (Chair, EDAS Skills Group) to learn about the contemporary challenges that different groups including women, young people, ethnic minorities and those with disabilities face in both accessing the labour market and receiving equal treatment within employment.
Ishabel Bremner(Chair, EDAS Skills Group; Economic Development Manager, Argyll and Bute Council).
Presentations will provide an overview of the latest research on equity in the Scottish labour market and workforce, including unique insight into EHRC's new report "Is Scotland Fairer?" regarding employment, skills and educational attainment. The case study of WebHelp Contact Services will be presented as an example of what employers can do to promote greater inclusiveness and equity in the workforce.
Focus will also be directed toward challenges faced by specific groups, including those who are often excluded from participation in the labour market. In addition, speakers will offer analysis of what practices and policy approaches may be working in the effort to promote greater equity in employment. Time will also be given to Q&A discussion and refreshments.
This event builds upon the work of the EDAS Skills Group, which held a previous event on underemployment and workforce planning in November 2015. Such initiatives form part of EDAS' Route Map of Common Ambition policy framework, focusing on the areas of innovation, internationalisation and skills. Following this event, we will provide attendees with an event report, while findings from the session will feed into key outputs from our Route Map policy framework.
We hope to see you on the 26th for a valuable and productive afternoon.
