Dumfries & Galloway Council are seeking additional funding for the conversion of Kirkcudbright Town Hall into an art gallery showcasing the town’s history and heritage as one of only two recognised artist colonies in the UK.

The Kirkcudbright Common Good Fund is being asked to contribute £200k toward the scheme which has been designed by ARPL Architects for anticipated delivery by the end of 2016.

This follows support from the Heritage Lottery Fund toward the £3.1m project which will give a long term future to the at-risk building whilst improving access, care and interpretation of paintings, drawings, print-making, furniture, photographs and ceramics currently in the council’s care.

Key exhibits in a collection of over 300 artworks will include works by members of the Glasgow Boys and Scottish Colourist artists such as SJ Peploe as well as a hoard of Viking treasure.
