Ever thought of setting up a Film Festival in your community? Or perhaps you’re already running one, but would like to try something completely new. Help is at hand from our Local Film Festival Challenge Fund.

This small, one-off fund was set up with funding from Screen Scotland, and is intended to complement Screen Scotland’s own Film Festival Fund. That much larger fund offers grants at a minimum of £5,000, so RSS’s Challenge Fund is intended for those who need less than £5,000, perhaps much less, and who are at the early stages of developing a new festival, or a new strand within an existing festival.

There have been two rounds for the Challenge Fund and the last deadline for the fund was 1 July 2019. The upcoming deadline is 12 noon on 9 December 2019.

In this round, there are one-off grants of between £1,000 and £3,000 available for activity to take place between 1 February and 30 June 2020. Those thinking of applying can get more information and the guidelines from the download here and are encouraged to contact RSS’s Partnerships Coordinator (Maternity Cover) lead for the fund, Shona Thomson at [email protected] to discuss their ideas before completing an application.

Feedback on draft applications can be given if you send them to Shona by 12 noon on Monday 25 November.

Alongside your application, please complete a budget template and return our Equalities Monitoring form, which you can download here.
