A programme has been launched by ScotRail provider Abellio encompassing Wigtown and Castle Douglas in a bid to imrpove connectivity between Scotland’s towns.
Abellio says its new collaboration with Scotland’s Towns Partnership (STP) should “improve connectivity, prosperity, and the sense of community”.
Also selected to be part of the scheme was Falkirk and Oban, and with goals ranging from supporting economic growth to creating a fairer, healthier, stronger and greener Scotland, Abellio says it is working closely with partners like STP.
STP represents and promotes the diversity of towns the length and breadth of the nation and to help facilitate their success.
Abellio took over stewardship of Scotland's national railway for four months ago with plans to transform the quality of rail travel across the country and said investment in station improvements, hub development and innovations are just part of Abellio's passenger focused plan to cater for travel from door-to-door, not just between stations.
Dominic Booth, Managing Director of Abellio UK said: “Scotland’s town centres should be attractive and diverse places where people want to live, visit and work and through this sponsorship we would wish to contribute to that discussion on developing a positive vision and strategy.

“If we are to deliver the true value for Scotland’s national railway then this relationship with STP is vital for us to achieve our commitment to realising the aspirations of Scottish Ministers and the Scottish Government’s National Performance Framework.”
